Ferrari 400 GT. 1978, S Reg. 4.8 litre V12 engine. Automatic gearbox. 6 keys. Only 56,337 miles from new (an average of less then 2,000 miles per year).
2 door Coupe, Metallic bronze. Full service history, Recently serviced, Long MOT.
Certainly one of the finest examples of this classic Ferrari Coupe, it is in fantastic, unmolested condition and is ready to drive away and enjoy. The car has spent many years in indoor storage throughout it's life and has a good service history and impeccable provenance including titled ownership. It is the carburettor engined model, fed by 6 twinchoke DCOE 38 Weber carbs. This is the more sought after engine as it has a higher horse power (340bhp compared to 310bhp) and a far better engine sound than the later fuel injected model which was detuned to meet American emissions legislation. It is one of only 85 right hand drive cars imported to the UK from the Ferrari factory. This Ferrari 400 was built to order for Sir Max Aitken DSO DFC (President of Express Newspaper Group and Son of 1st Baron Lord Beaverbrook that served in Winston Churchil's war cabinet) in early 1978. On his death in 1985, it was passed to his Son, 3rd Baron Lord Beaverbrook. It was purchased by the present owner, Eng Vince Smith BSc Ceng FIEE MIMechE in November 2002 through Ferrari specialists Terry Keys of Silverstone circuit. Mr Smith had some restoration work carried out to include an "engine out" service and light bodywork (including a respray) to bring the car to as near concourse as is sensibly feasible.
The underneath of this car is in tremendously good condition, as you would expect from a car that has been garaged through the winters for so many years. It is as solid as you could hope. The interior of the car is finished in beige leather with chocolate inlays and is in unmolested condition.
As you would expect, the car is mechanically excellent and drives fabulously. The only issue to be resolved is the choke lever is broken under the centre consul. This is fairly common as the lever has to operate 6 choke units through one cable that seizes with age. A replacement lever should be easily obtainable through the owners clubs and is an easy fit item. As it happens, the engine does not need the chokes to start or run. This is an amazingly smooth and quiet car but when you open the throttles it gives the most pleasing roar.
There is a thick file of documentation including three historical V5 log books, copies of the original build sheets with handwritten notations, 12 MOT certificates and the original service book which shows 12 stamps as follows: 22/05/1978 350 Maranello - Egham 350 mile service 20/02/1979 900 Maranello - Egham 900 mile service 20/02/1979 1900 Maranello - Egham 1900 mile service 20/02/1979 6000 Maranello - Egham 6000 mile service 07/06/1979 9500 Maranello - Egham 9500 mile service 24/10/1979 12500 Maranello - Egham 12500 mile service 11/11/1981 25000 Modena - East Horsley 25000 mile service 22/02/1983 31000 Modena - East Horsley 31000 mile service 22/02/1984 34000 Modena - East Horsley 34000 mile service 16/01/1984 43500 Modena - East Horsley 43500 mile service 14/02/1985 49498 Parkgate - London MOT test 08/06/1986 50166 Clifford & Webb - Cheltenham MOT test 09/05/1987 50360 Mellors - Challow MOT test 14/04/1988 50383 Clifford & Webb - Cheltenham MOT test 24/05/1989 50776 St Helens - Abingdon MOT test 28/06/1990 50996 Mellors - Challow MOT test 17/06/1991 51191 Mellors - Challow MOT test 29/11/1992 51243 Mellors - Challow MOT test 02/07/2002 54289 Express MOT - Towcester MOT test 23/11/2002 54788 Terry Keys Motorsport - Silverstone Service (engine out) 21/12/2002 54788 Express MOT - Towcester MOT test 15/12/2003 Autoglass Windscreen fitted 17/01/2004 551713 Sterling Garage - Newbury MOT test 01/07/2005 Autoelectrical Engineers Electrical connections greased 27/02/2008 56304 Sterling Garage - Newbury MOT test and service

Porsche 356a.
This is a stunning example of the 356a and is genuine factory right hand drive (only a small number of them were evber produced). It is in the proccess of being restored by Sterling Automotive and is very nearly finished. It just requires some final fitting up of brightwork such as grilles and sidelamps etc and will then be ready to drive, show and enjoy. Built on chassis number 100456, it was produced for the UK market and delivered in April 1957. It was taken by it's owner to America at just a few years old where it remained in a sunny climate until 1992 when it was brought home and we had the pleasure of owning it for a year. We then sold it and saw it just once a year when it came to Newbury for its MOT test and service. We recently bought it back and have stripped and restored it. It has been garaged over each winter and averaged about 50 miles per year over the last 15 years (most of this was the annual journey to our garage). It had a new engine fitted (probably under Porsche warranty) in 1964 - hence the engine number being P*713247. This engine has also now been stripped and restored, with new valves and guides etc. Hardened seats have been fitted so that it will run on unleaded petrol without additives. The restoration has been carried out to a very high standard and it will stand favourably beside any other show car. It has been restored to be "daily driven" and showed at events.
