MoT testing

What we do

MoT testing is carried out, by appointment, at our premises by our trained and VoSA approved testers.
Persons presenting a vehicle for mot may view the test in progress but must not engage with the tester during the test.

Diesel engines are revved fairly hard to carry out the smoke test. A worn cambelt/timing belt may suffer damage with subsequent engine damage if replacement intervals have not been adhered to. Please ask if unsure, before presenting a diesel engined vehicle for test.

Including the paperwork, the test takes on average an hour to conduct.

Vosa are the authority for all Mot testing nationwide. They set strict standards and only VoSA trained and approved testers are allowed to conduct an Mot test. The test is non-intrusive in that no item on the vehicle can be dismantled if a tool is needed to do so. That said, each item as laid down in the tester's manual, must be subjected to the appropriate visual and mechanical inspection and must reach the required standard before a pass certificate can be issued. Any item which does not pass the test will require the issue of a failure certificate. Items which are acceptable but which may be a failure item in the near future, must be included as an advisory item. Advisory items will appear on the pass certificate or failure certificate if the vehicle fails for any other reason.
Advisory items originally noted, cannot be removed in the event of a statutory free retest. According to VoSA rules, those advisory items will not be retested. A second full Mot test, which is chargeable at the full rate and with the advisory items repaired will of course not have the items from a previous Mot added.
A vehicle may be tested up to one month before the expiry of the previous certificate and retain the original test date plus twelve months. A test can be carried out at any time however but the date of test will become the annual test date with no additional days.
The generation of the certificates is totally electronic and the results of the test entered on line to the national test database. A form will be printed out which is confirmation that a test has taken place. The vehicle owner can check the validity on the VoSA website or with the testing station that appears on the A4 receipt.

Vosa have a government website, The MoT testing manual, amongst other things, is available to download for class lV vehicles (Cars and small vans) on line.
